Police Officer: $24.30 - $34.01 Hourly. The
Police Officer classification performs general and specialized law enforcement
work to preserve public peace, protect lives, property and rights of the public;
and to enforce statutory law and municipal ordinances. Police Officer work
involves patrolling Town streets and neighborhoods to deter crime or apprehend
and/or arrest violators or suspects, responding to calls for law enforcement
assistance, and gathering information for criminal investigations.
Essential Functions Include: •
Participates in the accomplishment of organizational, departmental and workgroup
goals and objectives. • Exhibits a service orientation toward customers and
maintains productive working relationships. • Reduces the commission of crimes
and maintains law enforcement by patrolling throughout the Town; patrols Town
streets and neighborhoods in a police vehicle, bicycle, or on a police
motorcycle; apprehends and/or arrests persons who violate federal, State or Town
codes and laws; researches codes and laws. • Monitors radio calls; communicates
with radio dispatcher and responds to complaints, reports of criminal events,
requests for law enforcement, and domestic or public disputes; inspects
troublesome areas and checks security of business establishments. • Secures
crime scenes; gathers information for preliminary investigations by interviewing
victims, witnesses, informants and suspects; performs searches of people,
vehicles and buildings; prepares investigative reports of findings, facts, and
related information; makes arrests and processes arrested suspects; detects and
collects evidence and substances that provide the basis for probable cause for
criminal acts; testifies in court. • Enforces traffic laws and regulations;
detects traffic violators; issues parking violations; performs traffic accident
investigations and makes reports; facilitates the movement of traffic and
pedestrians around accidents, disabled traffic control devices, or heavily
congested areas; assists disabled motorists; directs traffic for funerals and
other public gatherings. • Performs rescue functions at accidents, emergency
scenes and disaster areas. • Prepares, obtains, and serves arrest warrants;
serves legal documents. • Completes and/or reviews paperwork documenting shift
activities, offenses and accidents, victim and suspect statements, and other
related information; completes State report documents to accurately record
criminal offenses; prepares a variety of reports, including incident reports,
arrest reports, and lab and property sheets; organizes and files records. •
Operates computers, police vehicle, handgun, hand/ankle cuffs/belt restraints,
police radio, and other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions,
to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system
software. Types the minimum of 25 correct words per minute.
Minimum Qualifications:
Lateral To qualify, you must you
currently hold peace officer certification. If you are certified in Arizona, you
must have 2080 hours, post-academy field experience as a police officer or
reserve officer. If you are certified in another state, you must have two (2)
years experience as a police officer within the last three (3) years. Out of
state candidates will be required to pass an AZPOST waiver examination.
AZ POST Certified Peace Officer,
Non-Lateral
To qualify, you must hold an AZ POST peace officer certification, but
2080 hours of post-academy field experience is not required. In
addition, you will be required to take a written test.
If you
qualify for a lateral position, your pay will be based upon your years of
service. ** In addition to the hourly rate, shift differential
will be paid, if applicable. Typing speed of at least 25 wpm is highly
