COPJOBS TM
INTERVIEW TIPS
By Roy Owens Recruiting Coordinator, Tulsa Police Department
Reprinted from the February 1998 issue of Copjobs magazine
Pre-interview:
1. Be on time. If you are going to be late, call the interviewer so that you will not be penalized.
2. Dress appropriately. Men should wear a coat and tie (at minimum a shirt and tie).
Interview:
1. Remove all tobacco products and chewing gum prior to entering the interview room.
2. When the interview starts, sit or stand erect.
3. Speak clearly and concisely. Do not be overly wordy unless it is appropriate.
4. Address the person that asks the question, but you can also speak to the entire interview board by quickly gazing at each board member as you answer your questions.
5. Answer all questions truthfully and to the best of your knowledge. If you do not know an answer, say so. Do not "make up" information.
6. If you do not understand a question, ask that it be repeated.
7. At the close of the interview, thank the board if given the opportunity.
