Special Agent: Basic qualifications: A four year college degree, availability for assignment anywhere in the United States and Puerto Rico, 23-36 yoa, excellent physical condition, United States citizen. Must possess three to five years of full-time competitive work experience. Special Agents enter service as GS-10 employees on the government pay scale for law enforcement officers and can advance to GS-13 grade level in field non-supervisory assignments. All Special Agents qualify for locality pay. All Special Agents qualify for availability pay after training. Special Agent: Opportunities for Special Agent are limited because of high competition and low attrition. Candidates must pass the Treasury Enforcement Agent Examination. All appointees must be less than thirty-seven yoa at the time of entrance to duty. Must be in excellent physical condition and pass a comprehensive medical exam. Weight must be in proportion to height. Distant vision at least 20/20 in each eye corrected. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any field of study meets the minimum qualifications for appointment at the GS-5 grade level. In some cases, an applicant may be accepted with a minimum of three years experience, two of which must be in Criminal Investigation, or with a comparable combination of experience and education. Interested applicants may apply at a branch of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, or nearest Secret Service Field Office.
