The Town of Sawyer is strategically located in Choctaw County, immediately adjacent to Hugo Lake. Much of the recreational area of the lake is within our incorporated town limits. Army Corps of Engineer hunting lands and public fishing access surrounds the community. Within an easy driving distance are Broken Bow Lake, Pine Creek Recreational Area, and Sardis Lake, outdoor activity opportunities abound. Starting pay is $25,000. The Town of Sawyer is a participating member of the Oklahoma Police Pension and Retirement System. Those applicants over the age of 45 must be either former members of the System who have not yet retired from the System or become part of the Deferred Option Plan, OR have never been a part of the System. A pre-employment physical is required. The successful applicant will possess initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to communicate well with the public, including town officials. Honesty and integrity are considered vital to the position. Ours is an agricultural/recreational area with a high traffic flow. Duties will include enforcement of all town ordinances and applicable state statutes and most facets of routine police work. The focus of responsibility is to protect the citizens and businesses of our community, deter crime, and respond to 911 calls as well as general requests for assistance.
