Environmental Officer: Closing date: Open until filled. Salary is dependent upon experience and qualifications and shall not exceed $43,897 annually.  Investigates known and suspected violations of regulations and the law related to offenses against the environment, including those governing illegal dumping, illegal burning and other forms of pollution; locates and interviews witnesses and suspected persons and analyzes and evaluates their testimony; provides technical assistance in support of compliance with environmental regulations and laws; reviews and evaluates a variety of records to secure information concerning suspected crimes or civil violations; prepares detailed and comprehensive reports on all phases of investigations; initiates criminal and civil complaints relating to environmental violations; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other law enforcement and governmental agencies; may assist other law enforcement agencies with investigations; establishes and maintains contact with informational sources; testifies in court; develops and prepares necessary correspondence and reports; responsible for all environmental program documentation; develops, seeks and administers grants in support of environmental and emergency management activities.  Responsible for emergency management planning, mitigation, recovery and response activities as directed by the Grayson County EMC.  Serves the Grayson County EOC when activated as subject matter expert on environmental issues.

Qualifications: Knowledge of all state and federal laws and administrative regulations related to illegal dumping, illegal burning and hazardous materials handling, including without limitation criminal and civil remedies available to local government:

·         Safety practices concerning the handling of solid waste and toxic materials.

·         Geographic layout of county.

·         Evidence collection procedures and due process.

·         National Incident Management System training as required by  supervisor.

·         Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.

Other computer applications and systems as required by supervisor. Emergency management training and other

training as required by supervisor.

Experience:  A minimum of three years law enforcement experience in the area of  environmental enforcement and mitigation of environmental issues. 

Education, Licenses and Certificates:

A licensed peace officer for the State of Texas.

Possession of a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.

National Incident Management Training – must have completed IS-100, IS-200, IS-700 and IS-800 at time of hiring; must complete 300 and 400 within period of time as defined by supervisor after date of hire.
