Police Officer Salary:
$94,757-$125,548/year*
*Minimum includes 7% holiday pay and a $1,200 uniform allowance *Maximum includes 7% holiday pay , 10% Ed incentive, and a $1,200 uniform allowance Incentive Compensation and Other Benefits, if qualified: Holiday Pay - 7%
Educational Incentive - 5% for AA/AS degree or intermediate post /10% for BA/BS degree or advance post
Bilingual Premium - $225/month

Tuition Reimbursement - $1,000/ per semester

About the City of Winters The City of Winters is located in the southwestern corner of Yolo County, just east of Lake Berryessa and the Blue Ridge Coastal Range. The Winters Police Department operates from a modern public safety facility and provides high quality equipment, ongoing training, and a take home vehicle program for officers who reside within 60 miles of the City. Winters Police Officers have the opportunity to work in a community oriented department while gaining valuable experience in patrol, investigations, community engagement, and specialized assignments.
The City offers a competitive benefits package, including holiday pay, education pay, bilingual pay, shift differential, continuing education incentives, and an annual longevity bonus after five years of employment. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Respond to emergency and non-emergency public service calls and complaints.
• Patrol an assigned area by vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle or foot, leaves assigned area to assist other officers on calls as needed.
• Conduct public assembly checks, building security checks, and checks of other public areas.
• Issue warnings or citations for federal, state and municipal violations.
• Assure safe and competent handling of firearms.
• Preserve the peace in the community including at public and private gatherings.
• Apprehend or make physical arrests of persons suspected of violating the law or wanted by the court; use lethal and non-lethal force when necessary to apprehend and arrest suspects.
Perform a wide variety of citizen assistance tasks; answer questions from the public and maintain contact with citizens regarding potential law enforcement problems and preserve good relationships with the general public.
• Assist persons with mental and/or physical disabilities or lost persons in need of police assistance.
• Render assistance or first aid to citizens who are seriously ill or injured, and requests additional emergency medical assistance as necessary.
• Counsel juveniles and adults when necessary and refer them to other persons or agencies for further assistance.
• Develop, promote, and participate in crime prevention, community outreach and public education programs, events, and activities, and act as departmental representative to community organizations.
• Engage in community-based policing and collaborative problem solving.
• Interview and take statements from victims, complainants, suspects, and witnesses.
• Identify, contact and/or interrogate suspicious adults and juveniles.
• Complete detailed reports on activities such as incidents and crimes observed or investigated, contacts and arrests made, traffic accidents and recovery of property.
• Conduct criminal and crime scene investigations, including the collection, processing, preservation, recording and storing of physical and/or digital or computer-based evidence.
• Process crime scenes for latent fingerprints; photographs crime scenes and evidence using still and video cameras, collect photographic film from crime scenes and other sources, and dispense prints to attorneys and outside agencies. Prepare crime scene sketches as necessary. Recognize, identify, and prepare evidence and photographs for use in court and other criminal procedures.
