An individual in this position is a Deputy Sheriff for the Orange County Sheriff's Office and must meet all criteria required of that position (See Deputy Sheriff - Patrol job posting). In addition, they are assigned specialized duties in the Court Security Division as follows:
This position requires a certified Deputy Sheriff to maintain security and decorum within the various courts of the judicial system and to support the needs of jurors assigned to court functions. The Deputy responds to emergencies within the courthouse, assists with building evacuations as necessary, and operates security posts at the main and employee entrances. #oj
Must be Florida Certified or Currently Attending a Florida Law Enforcement Officer Academy: Florida Certified (vested with authority to bear arms and make arrests): Must have successfully completed the Florida Law Enforcement Officer Certification or Equivalency of Training from a Florida law enforcement academy and a passing score on the Florida law enforcement officer certification exam.
Currently Attending an Academy : Must be currently attending a Florida law enforcement officer academy. Must obtain passing score on the state law enforcement officer certification exam prior to receiving a conditional offer.
Good verifiable work history.
Accredited high school or GED diploma. (Will not accept a certificate of completion.)
Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
At least 20 years of age.
U.S. Citizen.
Valid driver's license for the last year.
Must have a valid Florida driver's license prior to being hired.
Must not have been convicted of a felony.
Must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving moral character, false statements, perjury or domestic violence.
Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces.
No illegal drug usage within the last year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
Good physical condition.
Ability to establish and maintain relationship with attorneys, judges, and citizens on matters related to criminal actions or other court and legal proceedings.
Ability to verify courtrooms, holding cells, jury rooms, and judge’s chambers are searched for contraband.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, other law enforcement agencies, tourists, business partners, and the public.
Must have proficient communication skills (i.e verbal and nonverbal) and public speaking ability to present to diverse group size and population (i.e age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, socio-economic level, etc.).
Must have proficient interpersonal skills with an ability to build and maintain working relationships with the internal and external stakeholders.
Must be able to interact with fellow employees, other agencies, and the public in a manner which represents the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in a positive manner.

Training:
Newly hired certified deputy sheriffs (with or without law enforcement officer experience) must participate in Deputy Orientation. This 6.5-week program covers all high liability areas, including driving, shooting, defensive tactics, and agency policies and procedures. After successfully completing Deputy Orientation, new deputies complete 14 weeks in the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP) in patrol . This one-on-one training with a certified Field Training Officer ensures that all new deputies are fully prepared to be a solo deputy. New hires with prior law enforcement experience may be eligible for an accelerated Field Training and Evaluation Program, but still mus
