Police Officer Recruit

The Police Recruit is a trainee class position designated to prepare an incumbent towards a career with the Police Department. An employee in this class receives academy instruction and field training in the areas of patrol methods, causes of criminality, courtroom procedures, fingerprinting, community relations, and other law enforcement topics to prepare for appointment to the position of Police Officer. Upon successful completion of academy instruction, the incumbent receives further training in the Field Officer Training Program. Position reports to Police Corporal/Sergeant or through the Chain of Command to the Chief of Police.

Essential Duties and Functions

• Follows and promotes policy and procedures of the City of Winder.
• Informs and advises the Corporal, Shift Sergeant and/or Commanding Officer of all important and unusual matters that occur within an assigned shift or activities when attending the academy.
• Attends a police academy, and receives and demonstrates understanding of classroom and field instruction in report writing, geographical comprehension, and police techniques. Maintains passing grades on all tests and examinations administered by the police academy.
• Assists the police department with general clerical and administrative functions.
• Assists the police department with field operations in a non-sworn capacity.
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Minimum of 21 years of age.
• Never been convicted of a felony.
• Must be a citizen of the United States.
• Must meet department’s psychological and background requirements.
• Must maintain the department’s firearms qualifications standards.
• Must pass an annual fit for duty physical and/or physical abilities test.
• Work evenings, weekends and/or holidays as required.
• Must be able to pass a credit check.
