Advance your law enforcement career with this leadership opportunity to serve as a Police Lieutenant with Patrol Services. The ideal candidate is an experienced law enforcement leader with a strong commitment to public safety, maritime security, personnel development, and community partnerships. This individual possesses strong leadership, decision-making, communication, and incident management skills, with the ability to supervise personnel, coordinate complex operations, and lead effectively in dynamic and high-pressure environments.
Four years of law enforcement experience.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties:
Direct patrol operations and ensure enforcement of Local, State, and Federal laws, Port ordinances, crime prevention initiatives, emergency services, and major incident response.
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Police Sergeants and subordinate officers while reviewing and approving official reports and law enforcement documents.
Lead personnel training, performance evaluations, counseling, and assigned personnel or Internal Affairs investigations.
Assist command leadership in developing policies, operational objectives, best practices, and strategies to improve law enforcement services.
Conduct maritime patrols and coordinate with the U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies on enforcement, rescue, recovery, and critical infrastructure security.
Support firefighting and rescue operations aboard Harbor Police vessels, including water rescues, body recovery, first aid, and emergency response.
Support recruitment and retention efforts by screening applicants, conducting interviews, attending recruitment events, and building relationships with prospective candidates.
Build community and stakeholder partnerships while conducting inspections of personnel, vehicles, firearms, and safety equipment and supporting agency communications.
