Sheriff's Deputy

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of SHERIFF’S DEPUTY for the Patrol Division. Responsibilities: Patrol assigned areas by foot or vehicle to maintain order, protect property, detect violators and enforce state laws. Apprehends and takes appropriate action on violators; to include arrests. Conducts investiga- tions of incidents, complaints and disturbances occurring in their assigned areas, and initiates appropriate reports. Enforces Missouri state laws and traffic laws and regulations; issues citations to violators when appropriate; inves- tigates traffic accidents and prepares reports when necessary. Protects the scene of a crime; collects and pre- serves the evidence in connection with a crime for court, and testifies in court. Establishes and maintains a positive liaison and working relationship with the community and other law enforcement agencies. Performs other related duties as assigned, including but not limited to jailer responsibilities. Minimum Requirements: – Possess a current P.O.S.T. license, or be currently attending an academy with a graduation date within the next 6 months. If the applicant is currently attending an academy their hire date would be contingent upon obtaining P.O.S.T. license. – Valid Missouri Driver’s License – Must have a High School diplo- ma/GED – Must be able to pass a detailed background check – Criminal History – Motor vehicle record check – Drug Screen Test – Must be willing to live within Shelby County. – Must be flexible with scheduling and willing to any shift times, weekends and holidays. – Complete a 3 month probationary period. – Have some typing/computer skills, excellent communications ability, ability to handle stressful situations and able to multitask. Benefits – Salary is $30,000 annually with approved D.S.S.S.F.. County and employee paid health insurance, C.E.R.F. retirement, sick leave, holiday pay and vacation are offered. – Assigned take home vehicle. – Uniforms and some duty equipment provided.
