Position: Adult Detention Officer Salary: $24.8743 per hour Schedule: Full-time with Benefits Closing Date: Open Until Filled Department: Cascade County Sheriff’s Office Applicants are required to provide the following: Completed Cascade County Employment Application; Possess or be eligible for a Montana Driver’s License with a good driving record; Please note, all portions of the hiring process, up to and including the Application itself, are subject to evaluation and scoring for ranking and selection of potential employees. The successful applicant must meet the following requirements: Graduation from High School or High School Equivalency (HSE) or GED and; Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of employment; Recruitment & selection processes will involve an oral interview, extensive criminal background check, and physical evaluation; Employees must have successfully completed and passed the required tests. Certifications: Successful completion of the Montana State Law Enforcement Academy Corrections/Detention Officer Basic required within one (1) year of employment; First Aid and CPR Certification required within one (1) year of employment; Taser Certification required within one (1) year of employment; Ability to obtain additional licenses and/or certifications as required by the position. Officers that have been trained in Detention/Corrections at an out of State academy may be allowed to take the equivalency test provided at MLEA if the State the Officer was trained in has reciprocity. Successful applicants will receive on-the-job training and certifications through the CCSO. An Adult Detention Officer (Officer) attends the Montana Corrections, Detention Officer Basic and the Montana Law Enforcement Academy (MLEA) within one (1) year of their employment. Upon completion of MLEA and a one (1) year probationary period an Officer may be assigned or apply to train new or less experienced Officers, apply for special assignments such as Field Training Officer or become firearms certified. Officers with two (2) years of employment may apply for promotion up to the rank of Corporal, for other special assignments such as Transport Officer, Training Officer, Religious/Grievance Coordinator, Security Threat Group Coordinator, or other special assignments. Officers completing three (3) years of employment may apply for the rank of Sergeant. Other promotional opportunities may be available to Officers maintaining an excellent work performance and longevity. 8am-5pm Monday-Friday schedules may be available. Notice to Applicants: The Cascade County Sheriff’s Office has a policy related to tattoos, body piercings and dental ornamentation. Applicants considering employment with the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office are notified that this policy will have a direct impact on eligibility for hiring. TATTOOS Applicants who have visible hand and/or neck tattoos may be considered for employment with the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office. Prior to appointment, all visible hand and neck tattoos shall be reviewed by the Sheriff or the Sheriff’s designee to determine whether the tattoos are consistent with the professional standards of the Cascade County Sheriff's Office. Visible tattoos that are offensive may disqualify an Applicant from employment with the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office. Examples of offensive tattoos include but are not limited to, those that exhibit or advocate discrimination; those that exhibit gang, racial, or extremist group affiliation; and those that depict or promote drug use, violence, criminal activity, sexually explicit acts, or other obscene material. The Sheriff's or the Sheriff’s designee’s determination regarding the acceptability of visible tattoos shall be final Tattoos or brands anywhere on the face are prohibited. Applicants with Face Tattoo(s) no matter the size or location on the face are ineligible for hire at the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office. The term “Face” will be defined as the area above the jaw line, extending to the area directly behind the posterior fold of the ear, to the area below the normal hair line and back around behind the posterior fold in the opposing ear to the jaw line. Tattoos on the ear itself will be considered Face Tattoos. Tattoos above the normal hairline on a bald applicant or an applicant with a shaved head will be considered Face Tattoos. The only exception to subsection a. above is a Cosmetic Tattoo, i.e., permanent makeup. All Cosmetic Tattoos are subject to the Sheriff's or the Sheriff’s designee’s determination regarding acceptability. 3. All visible Tattoos on the hands and/or neck will be covered when a Detention Officer is in public and representing any affiliation with the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office, to include Transport’s and Hospital Guard Duty, or Union activities when the Office approves the Detention Officer to be in uniform. The only exception is a "Wedding Band" Tattoo on the left-hand ring finger only. To qualify for this exception the "Wedding Band Tattoo" must be located on the base of the left ring finger and not exceed 3/8 inches in width and is subject to the Sheriff’s or the Sheriff’s designee’s determination regarding acceptability. BODY PIERCING OR ALTERATION Body piercing (other than earlobes) or alteration to any area of the body that is visible while on-duty or while representing the Cascade County Sheriff's Office in any official capacity, that is a deviation from normal anatomical features and that is not medically required, is prohibited. Such body alteration includes, but is not limited to: Tongue splitting or piercing. The complete or transdermal implantation of any material other than hair replacement (i.e., foreign objects inserted under the skin to create a design or pattern). Abnormal shaping of the ears, eyes, nose or teeth (i.e., enlarged or stretched out holes in the earlobes). DENTAL
