To supervise, assign, review and participate in the activities and operations of the City Marshal Office. To ensure the security of the Court building, its employees, as well as the publics. To ensure that outstanding warrants issued out of the Municipal Court are served or attempted to be served or are researched for collections purposes. Ensure that all state requirements are met as to officer training and requirements. Making sure that City and departmental policies and procedures are adhered to. Being a liaison with other City departments, government agencies, and the public. Participate in the forecasting and budgetary process. 1. Hiring qualified, as well as certified peace officers for the positions of Deputy City Marshal’s as needed to fill vacant positions. 2. Maintaining records that are required by state laws as to officer training and certification requirements. 3. Overseeing that the Courthouse, its employees, and the general public’s safety is maintained on a daily basis. 4. Making sure that City and departmental policies and procedures are adhered to by staff. 5. Participating in the process of the Courts forecasting, business planning and budgeting of the department. 6. Assigning warrants to attempt to be served by Deputy’s as well as researching and attempting collections by either mailings, or phone calls as well as physical attempts to arrest defendants. 7. Oversee private security officers who work security in lobby area as well as bailiff duties in the courtroom. 8. Work to ensure that a good relationship exists between other City departments as well as a liaison with Federal, State, City and other municipalities. 9. Work on ensuring that good moral and attitude is maintained by the department and its staffing. 10. Acquire information and or equipment on the latest technologies that will aid in the safety and productivity of the department and its personnel. 11. Maintain personnel records, as well as updates and required evaluations. 12. Oversee and ensure that equipment is functioning and working properly. Acquiring any needed equipment that may be needed due to malfunctions or required use by the department. 13. Maintain proficiency with all methods of weapons including firearms, tasers, handcuff techniques, pepper spray etc. 14. Ensure that cash drawer is counted twice a day, and that the deposit is taken and deposited at the bank daily. 15. Oversees the volunteer handicap parking program. 16. Make arrests and jail transports when needed. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Attend required meetings as required by the City. 2. Assist other agencies when requested. 3. Perform other related duties when assigned. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: 1. Must maintain a working knowledge of all state laws as well as city ordinances. 2. Must maintain proficiency with all equipment required in duties of the office. 3. Must be able to learn all the needed requirements to perform the duties required of the office and its daily operations. 4. Must maintain a physical condition that will allow the ability to pursue, maintain physical control over, or to apprehend a defendant. 5. Must be able to work in and out of controlled environments which would include extreme heat or cold, as well as physically demanding contours. 1. Must have at least (4) years of related law enforcement experience. 2. A peace officers’ certification of at least an intermediate certification or higher is preferred. 3. Must have a High School Diploma or equivalency. 4. Must hold a peace officer license in good standing. It is the policy of the City to recruit, employ and to provide compensation, promotion, and other conditions of employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability, genetic information or status as a Vietnam era or special disabled veteran, recently separated veteran, and other protected veteran. The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree. The City of Tyler supports a policy of a drug and alcohol free workplace. All candidates are subject to pre-employment testing, which may include, but is not limited to, Drug and Alcohol Screenings, Work Fitness Evaluation, Criminal Background Check, and Consumer Report/Credit Check. No person under eighteen (18) years of age will be employed in any regular full-time position. Persons under eighteen (18) years of age may be employed in temporary or regular part-time positions, if they furnish the City with a minor's release (Form 2-2) and are approved by the City Manager. No person under eighteen (18) years of age will be employed in any position requiring the operation of a City motorized vehicle.
