These full-time police officer position(s) will be grant funded under the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC). Salary: Pay Class: $20.00 per hour, approximately 1,400 hours over 6 months, FLSA Non-Exempt

BENEFITS : New recruits are eligible for CalPERS Pension and city insurance benefit plans (health insurance and retirement benefits) while a Police Recruit. Uniform allowance is NOT included . Not eligible for vacation accrual or comp time, only sick leave as required by state of CA under Paid Sick Leave Law.
Basic Function:
This is a non-sworn, training level classification in the Police Department. Recruits do not have police officer powers or authority.
Incumbents will assume non-sworn duties within the department and attend a P.O.S.T. Certified Academy (in Fresno or Hanford), which is approximately 6 months in length.
Recruits must be 21 years of age, prior to the end of academy, or by June 1, 2027.
The academy is intense and requires a high degree of discipline and will begin end-January 2027 in Fresno, or February 2027 in Hanford and is approximately 6 months in length.
The Police Academy is 40 hours per week, full-time equivalent Monday through Saturday, applicants are recommended to not continue other employment (part-time or full-time) outside of the police academy.
This position is considered ‘at-will’ and not eligible under Police Union.
The position is at-will, and the City of Coalinga reserves the right to release a recruit from employment should the recruit fail any part of the P.O.S.T. Academy.
Upon graduation and award of the Academy Basic Certificate, the incumbent may be appointed to fully sworn Police Officer. At this time, incumbents will begin a new 12-month probationary period

Learn to operate firearms safely and skillfully.
Obtain information through interview, interrogation, and observation.
Write clear and accurate reports.

Deal tactfully and effectively with a wide range of different individuals and groups from the community.
Work rotating shifts for days and evenings, not restricted to weekdays, weekends and holidays are included.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Skill and Ability to : Deal courteously with the public and work cooperatively with others; be alert and use good judgment; obtain a standard first aid/ Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate; learn standard broadcasting procedures of the police radio system; learn laws of arrest pertinent to local and state laws; learn the use and care of firearms.

Frequent travel required in course of performing portions of job functions. Elements of the job pose various degrees of hazard uncertainty common to law enforcement.
