The Position: Under direct or general supervision, performs a variety of non-sworn law enforcement duties, attends a formalized education program in preparation for employment as a Police Officer, and performs related work as required. Upon successful completion of a POST-certified basic police academy, a Police Officer Trainee shall be appointed to Police Officer I. Police Officer Trainee $7,150 - $7,883 Monthly Police Officer I $7,150 - $9,821 Monthly This recruitment will remain open until a sufficient number of applications have been received. Employment Guidelines Mandatory Requirements: High school diploma or recognized equivalent. Must have a valid California Driver's License and acceptable driving record. Legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law. Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of graduation from the academy. Vision no less than 20/100 in each eye (unless soft contact lenses are worn) and correctable to 20/20 with no color impairment. Process: Candidates who successfully pass the application review will be invited to participate in a PELLETB exam that will be administered by the City of Fullerton. Candidates who wish to bypass the City administered test may do so by submitting a passing PELLETB test score or National Testing Network (NTN) Entry Level Law Enforcement Test - "Frontline-National" test scores. Test score submissions must be dated within one year of your application submission date. The passing score for a PELLETB test is a minimum T-score of 46. The score must be on agency letterhead and attached to your application with the file name "PELLETB T-score". Per POST regulations, a candidate is not permitted to test more than once in a 30-day period. POST will invalidate any subsequent test administration T-score within a 30-day period. The minimum passing scores for the NTN Frontline National exam are as follows: Video - 65%, Reading - 70%, and Writing - 70%. Candidates must initiate the process with NTN so that they will provide scores to Fullerton Human Resources for review. For assistance with the submission of NTN test scores, candidates must contact NTN. Candidates who submit passing T-scores or NTN scores may be able to participate in an expedited recruitment process. Candidates who state they are submitting a passing score but fail to do so with their application submission will be disqualified from the process. Should this occur, a candidate is welcome to reapply and submit their test score after the requisite waiting period of 30 days as long as the recruitment is open. Upon passing the PELLETB exam (or test score submission), candidates will be invited to a Physical Ability Test (PAT)*. The components of the PAT* are: Push-ups (minimum of five (5) must be completed within 2:00 minutes or better). 1.5-mile run (must be completed within 15:00 minutes or better). Obstacle course, including scaling a 6-foot solid wall (must be completed within 1:10 minutes or better). Body drag of 32 feet (must be completed within 0:31 seconds or better). 440-yard run (must be completed within 2:22 minutes or better). The PAT score is based on the time or the number of repetitions completed. Candidates who do not complete a PAT component within the set minimum time will be disqualified. Oral Interviews* - Candidates who successfully complete the PAT will immediately move on to interviews conducted by staff members of the Fullerton Police Department. We currently anticipate scheduling the first round of PATs and Oral Interviews in early November. * The City reserves the right to revise any portion of the examination process, including PAT components and/or minimum times or repetitions. Candidates will be notified of any changes prior to the related examination process/step.
