Deputy Sheriff I, II and III Deputy I, Range ELE10 Deputy II, Range ELE11 Deputy III, Range ELE12 Summary of Job Purpose: Responsible for performing a variety of public safety and law enforcement services. Performs law enforcement related activities that include technical and administrative functions. May be assigned to detention, court, or patrol. Deputy I: Employ ees in the c l ass of Depu ty Sher iff I are distinguished from those in the class of Deputy Sheriff II or Deputy Sheriff III by working to obtain or in possession of a Category III POST certificate and assignment to work in the detention facility without being the holder of a current Nevada Basic , Intermediate or Advanced POST certificate. Employees in the Deputy Sheriff I c l ass shall not be assigned to patrol and/o r inves t igative functions without direct supervision until successful completion of required certifications. Maintains order and security within the detention facil i ty; asse sses information and makes decisions regarding inmates; direc ts and instructs inmates (individually and in groups); monitors and documents behavior of inmates; supervis es visitation, exercise, and work program s of inmates. Searches incoming inmates for removal of va lu ables and contraband; inventories proper ty for secu re keeping ; conducts interv iews and reviews background of inmates to d ete rmine appropriate housing assignment and if medi ca l attention i s needed; assigns inmates uniform s, s upplies; provides or i entation t o new inm a tes regarding rules, regulations, and responsibilities; fingerprints and photographs inmates. Prepares written report s and maintains statistics on in cidents such as use of force, disturbances, and contraband confiscated; iden tifies symp t oms of po ssib le emotional and physical disorders t o make referrals; g i ves first a i d and ca r diopulmonary resuscitation.
