Under direct or general supervision, a Police Officer Trainee performs a variety of non-sworn law enforcement duties and attends basic law enforcement training (BLET) in preparation for employment as a Police Officer I with the Lexington Police Department. Upon graduation of BLET and completion of all NC state law enforcement requirements will perform responsible work as Police Officer I to provide for public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting good community relations. This is not a sworn position.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED
• Current enrollment in Basic Law Enforcement Training and remain in good standing while in program
• Valid NC driver’s license or valid out-of-state driver’s license with the ability to obtain a valid NC driver’s license within sixty days of employment and good driving record
• Minimum age of 20 years

Work Schedule
Schedule during Basic Law Enforcement Training is set by the BLET school; rotating shifts upon completion of BLET.
Paid bi-weekly.
